Abstract

This is a static portfolio web application built with Astro, Tailwind, and Framer. It attempts to create a seamless, full-screen experience for the user. The site is built with a mobile-first approach, and is fully responsive.

Hypothesis

Astro is a web framework that supports multiple UI frameworks which makes it a very useful framework for developing Web Applications on Node.JS.

Aim

Create a static portfolio that can be hosted for free on Github Pages.

Develop it publicly, and provide a license for others to use it as a template if they would like.

Tools

This portfolio is built using Astro on Node.JS.

It uses Tailwind, React, and Framer-Motion. It could have been built using only CSS, but I wanted to work more closely with JavaScript and Tailwind for this project and less with HTML/CSS.

Astro

Astro describes itself as The web framework for content-driven websites.

It is quite a bold claim but I hope to continue working with Astro or related packages such as Vite.

Tailwind

TailwindCSS is used for the majority of the styling in the website. It’s practices enable us to code simple animations using JavaScript, or CSS pseudo-selectors.

Framer

Framer-Motion is a really bulky but really versatile package that pulls a react dependency into the project. It’s used for the slowly morphing background.

Method

1. Design wireframe for the portfolio.
2. Determine optimal mechanics for user interactivity.
3. Attain assets for the final product.
4. Implement UI & UX.
5. Refine product, ensuring a responsive and dynamic website.
6. Provide sample content for demonstration purposes.
7. Integrate a content warning splash screen.

Abstract

Bean Scene is an exclusive cafe that requires tables to be reserved in advance. They require an online platform to reduce administration costs. This project requires working closely with the organisation using a waterfall approach to develop a tailored application for their needs.

Hypothesis

The .NET ecosystem provides a secure, reliable and tested full-stack to build Web and Mobile Applications.

Aim

Develop a Web + Mobile experience for Bean Scene using HTML+CSS+JS and the .NET ecosystem.

Tools

Bootstrap

Bootstrap is an all-in-one UI solution that can be extended using CSS language extensions if desired. It manages javascript code to simplify creating UI components such as accordions and simple animations.

Entity Framework

Entity Framework is a modern object-relation mapper that lets you build a clean, portable, and high-level data access layer with .NET (C#) across a variety of databases, including SQL Database (on-premises and Azure), SQLite, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Azure Cosmos DB. It supports LINQ queries, change tracking, updates, and schema migrations.

GraphQL

GraphQL is a query language for APIs, and a server-side runtime for executing queries using a defined schema. It isn’t tied to any specific database or storage engine and is instead backed by existing code and data.

Results

The results are not very impressive.

We were not able to develop a solution that included a functional Mobile Application within the deadline.

A Web Application was functional, but still did not meet the client’s expectations.

Our sister development team built a prototype using Flutter which was accepted by the client and are currently managing its CI/CD.

Abstract

Sports Warehouse is a wholesaler of sporting equipment that is looking to expand their sales by selling direct to consumer through an e-commerce website.

The design has been outsourced in advance and we are just implementing the requirements they have already defined.

Hypothesis

LAMP is a tried and tested, rock-solid stack that can be used to develop any Web Application.

Aim

Develop an e-commerce website for Sports Wholesalers from scratch using PHP.

Tools

SASS

SASS is a CSS extension language that adds a plethora of features on top. It was used to viciously adhere to DRY.

Laravel

Laravel is a great software solution for anyone building applications on PHP with a tailored ecosystem for rapid development of websites.

LAMP

LAMP is an ecosystem composed of four software technologies that enable any computing resource to host websites.

Results

The website was functional and the client was happy to proceed with the QA plan.

Abstract

Anthony’s Fast Food provides cheap and healthy options for consumers from a physical store. They are looking to use a platform such as wordpress for an online experience which integrates home delivery. We have been commissioned to perform data modelling and analysis to develop a system they can use for the final implementation.

Hypothesis

Domain Driven Design will be the best way for us to break-down the business requirements.

Limiting the domains to exactly three will ensure an optimal purview of analysis.

Aim

Using Domain Driven Design, capture requirements with respect to the SLA with the client.

Tools

PowerBI

PowerBI used to visualise past business activities. Provided valuable insight that was used in developing an optimal solution.

Draw.IO

Draw.IO can be installed as an extension in VS Code and provides industry standard diagram models such as UML. It also supports importing Mermaid.JS diagrams.

Redis

Redis powers the e-commerce solution with a custom built in-memory database for the frontend.

Results

Documents accurately captured the client’s requirements.

Greetings (from this portfolio made using Astro)!

It’s using a heavy Framer-Motion to render the background through react, but otherwise is mostly in POJO.

There will be a V2 which I will get around to once I have a shorter to-do list.
